If you wind up with a boring, miserable life because you listened to your mom, your dad,
your teacher, your priest or some guy on TV telling you how to do your shit, then YOU DESERVE IT. - F.Zappa

The Pledge? how come?
I've seen it a while ago and liked it quite a bit, although it is still not even close in atmosphere to the original book by F.Duerrenmatt - something we were required to read back in high school.

I can barely remember the reason why, but I still have strong feelings about it...I think it had to do with me not wanting horrible images of bad things happening to children inside my head. i felt that when i saw the trailer and so stayed away.

Andreas: 6 richtige! dito!!!

Agree about "The Pledge," Andreas, although I understand Naomi's objection too. I'm getting more and more that way about movies that promise violence against women or children -- I can't bear the thought of it re those in my life, so I shy away from fictional versions. Thus, I haven't seen "Mystic River" yet, though someday I suppose I will.

I think you should give Schindler's List a chance sometime, though. I think anything that says "don't just throw up your hands and give up" is a movie worth seeing. I actually think it's a strong movie artistically, too, but that's just me.

And Casablanca's dialogue is just too good to ignore.

But if we all agreed on everything, what a boring world it would be.

[7]
now, Andreas, I need to know why you won't see 'Chicago'.

[8]
@Naomi: that's a rhetorical question, right?

[9]
hell no. i loved that flick. what's your problem? :)

[10]
Ja, nee, also fast. ;-)

Andreas, you should give Chicago serious consideration. Believe me, I'm not one for musicals (especially in movie form), but Chicago was quite enjoyable... even Renee Zellweger was tolerable, and that's saying something.

I guess I would contribute "Cold Mountain" to your list...
